The hemocue WBC Analyzer

Unisensor has developed a Point-of-Care device for counting white blood cells in human blood. The device has been developed for the Swedish company HemoCue.

A drop of blood is placed in a plastic cuvette, and chemical reagents in the cuvette haemolyses the red blood cells and stains the white ones for the detection.

As the first device in the world, the WBC Analyzer does not rely on a photometer, or on impedance measurements for counting white blood cells. Instead, the WBC Analyzer uses a digital microscope and specially designed software with image analysis algorithms.

The result is shown in the device display, and the whole measurement procedure takes less than two minutes.
